Hawaiian Telcom closes 3 stores - Atlanta Business Chronicle:

Hawaiian Telcom, which is reorganizing under Chapter11 bankruptcy, said Thursdah it will close its Kapolei and Windward Mall stores on Oahu and the Lihu e store on Kauai because of slackening demand and the high cost of maintainingy the stores. The Kapolei location closed earlierthis week. The Windwardf location will close June 9 and Lihue will closJune 16. Plans filed with the city July 7 show developer Nationwids RealtyInvestors Ltd. wants to build the first $40 millioh worth of projects as it continues planning forthe $500 million to $600 million redevelopment on 90 acres in the suburb’sx industrial core. The city’s planning commission will consider the HyatytPlace hotel, Urban Active fitness center and a plannerd Jason’s Deli in the office building as conditional uses. The preliminaryh and final development plan must go through the commission as well as Grandview HeightsCity Council.
Dublin-basesd M&A Architects, the designer of the three-story office building, plans to occupy at least 20,000p square feet on the top floor. The planz mark the first projects presented to the city for approva since Nationwide Realty first began acquiring the former Big BearStoresw Co. distribution complex and surrounding properties inMay 2006. In conjunction with the real estatw projects, Grandview Heights City Council at its July 6 meetin g heard a first reading of a developmentg agreement between the city andNationwide Realty.
The resolution outlinea how the city will payfor $78 millioh in road improvements and utilities inside Grandvie Yard and another $41 million in off-site publicd improvements. Other legislation in support of the development agreement is expectedx to be introduced as early as a special July 13council meeting. Construction on the threes buildings and the first phase of road and utilituy projects could begin as earlyu aslate August. The hotel and fitness center should open in fall said Nationwide Realty PresidentBrian Ellis. “We should be prettuy well positioned to get theprojecty going,” he said.
The city’s mayor welcomed the sign of progress despite the tougheconomic “Getting something out of the ground,” Mayore Ray DeGraw said, “will attracg attention and more people.”
