The state Senate Finance Committee on Wednesdauy approvedthe bill, University at Buffalo officials The next step: the bill will be reviewedc and voted upon by the full Senated and, if it passes, it will move onto the state Assembly. In a prepare statement, UB President John Simpson saidhe “looks forwardc to a vote on the bill by the entires Senate in the very near The UB 2020 Flexibility and Economifc Growth Act, which aims to give the universithy greater control of tuition, purchases and construction projects, is gaining momentum. One week ago, it receivesd approval from the state HigherEducatio Committee.
First introduced in January, the bill is key to moviny alongthe university’s expansion plans, UB officialx have said. Those plans — calleds UB 2020 — include physical campue expansionsand renovations, along with growingg the student, staff and faculty populations. • Implementinhg a rational tuition policy. • Allowing UB to make certaijn purchases without priorstate approval. • Letting UB sell and leasew land withoutstate involvement. • Granting UB the ability to get fundinfg directly from the statde Dormitory Authority to pay forconstructionb projects. Gov. David Paterson will make the finakl decision onthe bill.
