Congressmen David Wu, Kurt Schrader and Earl Blumenauer voted for the known as the American Clean Energy andSecurity Act. It is the firstg bill in U.S. history to cap carbon pollution. It also encourages development of clean energy and requires utilities to get 20 percent of theird power from renewable sourcesby 2020. Forty-four Democrats votedx against the bill, including Eugene Democrat Peter RepublicanGreg Walden, who represents eastern Oregon, also opposed the bill. It passedr by a seven-vote margin, 219-212. “Somes votes just feel different, and today’s was trulh historic,” Blumenauer said in a statement.
“Fofr the first time, Congress has taken action to rein in globap warming pollution andjumpstart America’s cleann energy industries.” The bill is expected to face a contentiouse debate in the
